This year, Pelikan presents us with a very special gem in its Maki-e series: "Ivy and Komon". This fountain pen has a very complex decoration using various Maki-e techniques.

The base is a two-tone Urushi lacquer with scattered ivy leaves. A Komon pattern, a traditional geometric pattern, is placed on top. This is the so-called Asanoha pattern, which is supposed to symbolize hemp leaves. In Japan, hemp and ivy represent strength and vitality.

Some of the Komon patterns are covered with mother of pearl or filled with other Komon patterns. Overall, the result is a beautiful play of patterns and colors between the very natural ivy background and the somewhat playfully arranged graphic patterns.

This fountain pen is available in an edition of 123 pieces worldwide. It has an 18 kt bicolor gold nib and is designed to be used as a piston fountain pen.
